Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the Kenilworth Festival? The Kenilworth Festival in annual event that runs for a week. The aim is bring the community together, promote local businesses and to bring quality entertainment to to the town. The Festival is run entirely by volunteers, including support by members of Kenilworth Soroptimists, PHAB, Emmaus and others. The organisation is a non-profit making concern. All monies raised will be used to ensure that we can put on bigger, better events the following year. We always welcome ideas for our events programme and would love to recruit more volunteers to help organise elements of the event. If you'd like to get involved in any way, please let us know. 2. Who organises the Kenilworth Festival? The Kenilworth Festival is organised entirely by volunteers from the community. We are always looking for people to come forward to help either before, during or after the event. No experience is required! The more help we receive, the better the event. In the run-up to the Festival, we tend to meet once a month as a committee. 3. I play in a band, how can I perform at the Festival? We are always looking for quality entertainers to volunteer their services at the Kenilworth Festival. It is a great opportunity to showcase your talents and many bands have picked up bookings as a result of performing for us. If you are a singer, a musician, part of a band or an entertainer of any kind, we'd love to hear from you. We book our programme of events several months before the Festival, so the sooner we hear from you, the better! 4. I run a business. How can I promote my business at the Festival? Part of the remit of the Kenilworth Festival is to bring people to the town and help local businesses to prosper. There are many ways in which you can get involved in the Festival. You could sponsor the Festival - a small donation would help us to put on an event or pay for a professional act. You might want to book a pitch at 'Party in the Park' to sell goods or promote a service. You could get involved and provide a service for the Festival in return for credits on our website and our publicity. The opportunities are endless. If you can display a poster for the Festival at your business or in your shop window, we'd be really grateful. 5. I can offer a service. How do I get involved with the Festival? We'd love to hear from you! Can you provide catering or portaloos at Party in the Park? Can you help to deliver programmes door to door across the town? Could you display a poster for us? Can you host an event? Please, please email or telephone as soon as possible! 6. What happens to the money that the Kenilworth Festival makes? The Kenilworth Festival is a non-profit making organisation. Any funds raised will be used to put on events the following year. It costs a lot of money to hire stage and sound equipment, marquees, portaloos, venues, speakers and professional acts. We try to do as much as we can for free, but some events do need to command an admission fee to help us to fund the week-long programme. We are always looking for sponsors and donations. Our 'Party in the Park' is always free for all the local community to attend! 7. Why are some events free and others chargeable? In an ideal world, we'd love the whole Festival to be free! However, we do pay out thousands of pounds to promote the Festival, hire stage and sound equipment and for professional speakers and acts. In order to cover these costs, we do have to charge a nominal fee to attend certain events. The more sponsorship we can raise, the less events we will have to charge for! 8. How do I get tickets for events at the Festival?
If you would like to attend a 'ticketed event', you can either purchase tickets in advance from Kenilworth Books in Talisman Square or from Oxboffice 0845 680 1926 (local rate) or online via this website (programme page) or from www.oxboffice.com. 9. Where can I park my car to attend the Festival events? This will depend on where the event is. Kenilworth has a 'Pay and Display' car park at Abbey End, behind the shops and at the back of the library (Square West). Parking here is free after 6 pm and on Sundays. Both Sainsbury's and Waitrose have 2 hour pay and display car parks. There is a small car park at the Abbey Fields which is free of charge. The Talisman Theatre has its own small car park. Please note that some streets in the town have parking meters. 10. Are there camping facilities at the Kenilworth Festival? Unfortunately not. Kenilworth does, however, have a number of guest houses and hotels which offer fantastic accommodation and we pride ourselves on a diverse range of quality eating establishments. We are delighted to work with the Holiday Inn, Kenilworth who sponsor a number of our events. For more information on accommodation and restaurants in the town, please contact us. 11. What are the dates of the Kenilworth Festival? The 2012 Kenilworth Festival will have a grand launch on Saturday 12th May and the Festival week will carry on to the climax with 'Party in the Park' on Sunday 20th May. Events will take place during the daytime and evening throughout the Festival week. 12. Why is there nothing on the programme of events that appeals to me? We sincerely hope this is not the case! If we have missed a trick though, please let us know. We are always asking the public to tell us what they'd like to see at the Festival. Without this knowledge, we can't please everyone. Our aim is to organise events for all ages and include arts, music, sport etc. We're always open to new ideas. And if we're really getting it wrong, why not come along and join us to help get the event right! Your Festival needs YOU! 13. I am an artist. How can I exhibit at the Art Exhibition? We are always looking for artists and photographers who would like to exhibit or sell their work at our popular Art Show. For more information on exhibiting, click here. 14. I'd like to sell goods at the Party in the Park. How do I reserve a stall? We welcome traders and charities at Party in the Park. Pitches must be booked and paid for in advance. Please note that the sale of alcohol, drugs, fireworks, lasers and weapons are prohibited. Catering outlets must comply with Warwickshire County Council hygiene standards. We are unable to guarantee any exclusivity. 15. How can my charity benefit from the Kenilworth Festival? It would be fantastic to be able to support lots of local charities as a result of holding our Festival. We invite charities to take a stall at our Party in the Park to raise funds and increase awareness of their work. We would also be delighted to host a fundraising event as part of the Festival, provided that we can appoint an appropriate sponsor. (An example of this is in 2011, local solicitor, Penman's, sponsored a Barn Dance which helped raise money for PHAB. The event was a sell-out and the profit was shared between the charity and Kenilworth Festival funds). 16. How can I sponsor the Kenilworth Festival? There are many ways in which you could support the Festival. Why not talk to us? You may wish to pledge a sum of money to help us pay for staging, sound or an act/entertainer. You may like to sponsor a particular event? We also have advertising opportunities in our programme. If your company could offer us a service, we would be delighted to credit you as a sponsor on our website and as part of our promotional activity. 17. How do I advertise in the Kenilworth Festival Programme? The Festival programme is put together very early in the year, so please contact us around December for advertising in the following years' programme. The programme is circulated to houses and businesses in the area, so it's a great cost-effective way to promote your business/service and also help the Festival. 18. How can I help to improve the Kenilworth Festival? The Festival aims to put on a programme of events with something that will appeal to everyone. We can only do this by getting your ideas and feedback. We are also looking for willing volunteers to help on the organisational side of things - if you can spare just a few hours on the day of an event, or in the run up to the Festival, we would be delighted to hear from you. We don't have a crystal ball - if something is missing, please say! We'll do our best to incorporate as many ideas as possible into our busy programme. 19. Are dogs allowed at the Party in the Park? The Abbey Fields is a public place, however we respectfully ask that in the interests of safety, all dogs are kept on a leash and owners act responsibly. Please do not leave your dog tied up or in your vehicle on a warm day. 20. Are children allowed to attend events? Of course! Many of our events are organised specifically with children in mind, such as 'Party in the Park' which is a family fun day with lots of childrens' activities. Attendance at evening events is at the discretion of the parent/guardian. Please note that some of our evening events are held in licensed premises. 21. Can I bring alcohol to the Party in the Park?
In the interests of health and safety, alcohol is not for sale, except as stated below**, at the Party in the Park. In addition, anyone appearing drunk or found in possession of drugs or weapons will be excluded and arrested. The Kenilworth Festival has the right to refuse entry. 22.
